Hong Kong Chronicles: Neihou, y'all!

Neihou is Cantonese for "Hi!" Things are starting to settle into a routine in Hong Kong. Jewelry and lampwork is still low on my priority list as it will take some time and money to get my studio set up again. In the meantime, I do have a little bit of time to start work on the promised series of "Lampwork for the Jewelry Designer." I've had some great feedback from a few other lampworkers with similar ideas and thoughts (Kerry Bogert and Emma Baird) and I'm planning to compile these into a series of posts.

In the meantime, I've been exploring my lovely island and gathering inspiration for future designs. Here is some of the flora that abounds in a sub-tropical climate...

Having resided in Texas for the last 9 years, I had been inspired by the southwest and love the southwest themes. I was wondering how Asian influences would fold into my sensibilities. On one of my hikes around the island, I came across this little pavilion that reminded me of Texas. I call it the Wild, Wild East. I think it will serve as a foundation for my East meets West style. My doggy, Molly, arrived a week and a half ago, and she's been my little hiking buddy. I'm starting to get her (and me) built up for the more intense hikes. I had been hoping to bring my other dog, Bijou, to Hong Kong as well. But sadly, he got sick and died 2 weeks ago. That has been heartbreaking, but Molly is helping me heal.

I'm hoping to begin posting every other Saturday. I think that's a reasonable schedule I can commit to for now. So, thanks for hanging in there and checking out my blog. We'll be talking to you soon!
